Post any words of wisdom?

Hi everyone

We are really excited that we made the draw!! We are a team from Alberta ( Big Rock Runners) and we are so looking forward to this and visiting your part of Canada! We've booked some hotels and we are considering the best type of vehicles to rent. Does anyone have any advice? Do the runners with the later legs usually come out to the race later or are most runners along for the entire course? Any thoughts on this or any other useful tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Hi, I don't see where the 2012 team list has been posted. How do you know your team was selected?

Thanks.

What my team has done in the past is everyone follows the runners up until leg 9 start. The late Saturday - Sunday morning runners then go ahead to Cheticamp to sleep. We then split up into 2-3 smaller groups to support runners through the night & morning. People that ran until midnight or so then sleep a little in Cheticamp. All meet at the start of leg 16 or 17.

Take lots of fluids and snacks along the way, of course. Ideally, also take along what you need to make a hot meal like soup or stew and sandwiches. The few restaurants on the way up until Cheticamp will be very busy.

Our team also books a couple of rooms in Cheticamp, and just keeps one in Baddeck for Sat. night. We usually have 3-4 cars on the trail. One car leaves early for the Leg 1 and 2 runners. Another one or two leave an hour or two after that and the last car leaves a hour or two after that again for the Leg 8, 9, 10 runners etc. We usually have a group that goes to Cheticamp for a nap before their Leg 11, 12, 13 runs. The runners who have already run then come in for a nap, spaghetti etc.around midnight. The runners doing Legs 15, 16 and 17 usually drive back to Baddeck and spend the evening there. We usually get at least one room with a kitchen for meals etc. and keep that as a party room. The other two rooms/cabins etc. are more for sleeping/resting. Hope this helps!

Welcome to the race! You'll have a great time - well other than running the hills!

Hi Lac La Biche,
The Big Rock Runners are from Okotoks, a small town south of Calgary, actually Okotoks means Big Rock in the native Stoney language. Looks us up, what team are you on?

Bring clothes for any weather! We get it all, or we get none of it. You never know. You can pre-order a boxed lunch from the High Wheeler Cafe in Baddeck (Google them). Don't eat the pizza in Cheticamp. There are pancakes at the end of leg 16. Make sure everyone on your team memorizes the rules. We hate penalizing teams and ignorance is no excuse. Everyone has to register for their leg at (say it with me now) the van with the green flashing light at the finish line. The steak at the banquet is shoe leather, not A1 Alberta beef, and they start cooking it on Friday night. Bring your sense of humour, costumes, an Alberta flag, and funny signs. Have fun out there!

Remember to bring reflective vests if you are running legs 9 through 14. Have fun and stick around for the party at the yacht club Sunday night after the race. Live band and lots of dancing.
