Notes for Teams/Captains

These notes were prepared to help you have a safe and enjoyable race. If you have any concerns or queries, any committee member will be pleased to help you.

You will be running through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The required entry permit is included in your race registration.
Teams are responsible for their runners. Make sure you have supplies for a 24 hour period. This will include:

  • Fluorescent running vests
  • Band Aids
  • Large water container
  • Water Drinks
  • Bottle caddy
  • Flashlights
  • Garbage bags
  • Soft toilet tissue
  • Fly repellent
  • Vaseline
  • Small water bottle
  • Towels/Sponges

In 1993 we experienced strong coastal breezes ( gale force winds??), torrential rains and cool daytime and night time temperatures. Be prepared for all weather conditions and bring along rain gear to keep you dry when hopping in and out of your vehicle.
Shower facilities may be available at the National Parks Campgrounds in Broad Cove (leg 6) and Cheticamp (leg 12) courtesy of Parks Canada. Cabot High School (leg 6) also offers facilities.
Portapoties will be placed at strategic points along the route. Pit toilets will also be open at the picnic parks (courtesy Parks Canada).
Please respect our unique and fragile environment. Take your litter home with you.
Good general stores are available in Baddeck, Ingonish and Cheticamp.

Food services are available at various places along the Cabot Trail. Look especially for the following:

  • Pipers Trailer Court and Restaurant ( leg 2)
  • Clucking Hen (leg 2)
  • Wreck Cove General Store (end of leg 3)
  • Mountain View Restaurant (end of leg 9)
  • Various restaurants in Cheticamp (end of leg 12)
  • Harbour Restaurant (open 10 am Sat. -2 am Sun.)
  • Evangeline Restaurant (open until 2 am Sun.)
  • Breakfast at the Lakes Cafe (end of leg 15)

Remember, it will be midnight or later as we pass through Chéticamp. Many teams like to book motel rooms here to give the runners a break.

Call ‘Check In’ toll free at 1-800-565-0000 for information.

Make sure your gas tank is full! There is a late night service in Chéticamp.
